Remastered from the original tapes, "Compulsion" is an expanded 12" version of the original 7" released in the early 80s by Cherry Red, with tracks never released at the time on the B side.
At the crossroads between minimal wave and the sort of wayward, DIY pop practiced by the late 70s British underground, Joe Crow's music sounds like Robert Wyatt backed by Depeche Mode. A sublime pop song in every sense, "Compulsion" was indeed later covered by Depeche Mode's Martin Gore but it's this original. cracked and fragile version which hits hardest. The three bonus tracks offer a new light on Crow's only solo record session, whimsical and melancholy in a delightfully British manner. A lost gem lovingly restored by the impeccable Dark Entries.
