We’d like to introduce you to the Archipelago EPs.
Our archipelago is formed not of islands, but of three sumptuous slices of vinyl featuring six very exciting artists. Each split 12” EP is outstanding in its own right, but collected together they form a quite remarkable document. A sublime collection of artists right at the start of their recording career, filled with desire, ideas, and energy, and artists experienced in their craft, finding new ways to create and producing something different and quite beautiful. Eye-pleasing artwork by Kris Ferguson adorns all three records and will form a stunning and surprising vista when sat alongside each other in the correct sequence.
Each artist occupies their own side of vinyl, neighbours to their labelmates only a flip of a record away.
Glasgow-based singer-songwriter, Chrissy Barnacle, is one of those rare artists whose music can literally stop you in your tracks.
A cult figure on the music scene, Barnacle twists together folk and pop music, intertwining them in songs that tread paths along which you'll be touched, laugh and be carried blissfully on a poignant journey within the space of a composition. Writing from the heart, Barnacle’s nylon-stringed folk pieces spanning witchcraft, cannibal rats and the impossibility of love, are filled with raw intimacy and emotional heft.
Art-pop singer-songwriter Jared Celosse infuses dark, cinematic imagery with colourful piano and guitar arrangements. Four Cold Walls, an EP of music recorded in Celosse’s bedroom from 2013-2015, released in 2018 under Olive Grove Records is a 5-song demonstration of his ability to write stylistically pointed, intricately arranged music.
In August of 2019 Celosse put out a collection of 6 songs as part of a Creative Scotland funded music release from Olive Grove Records called Archipelago, Vol.1. Ahead of this, New Orleans (Esca) was released as a single. This song won the inaugural Stewart Cruickshank Bursary for songwriting and has received support from Vic Galloway and Roddy Hart on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 6.
