Bravest Boat

Bowed Beam

Shadazz

Released: 3rd June 2016

A new constellation from the glittering Glasgow radical musican galaxy, Bravest Boat is a celestial, enticing proposition.
Bowed Beam is the debut album from maverick pop instrumentalists Bravest Boat with structured improvisations, instant composition and prepared jams that are unusually melodic and inviting. Both highly accessible and disorientating, the extended techniques of twin electric guitars, trombone, viola, violin, percussion, flute and out there vocalisations combine evocatively like some kind of a warped chamber group on hallucinogens. The core band may well be familiar, featuring various members of Sound of Yell, National Jazz Trio of Scotland, Sum Shapes, Glasgow Improviser’s Orchestra, The One Ensemble and Alasdair Roberts & Friends. Bowed Beam comes out this week on Luke Fowler’s Shadazz label, whose National Bedtime release Jobs for Beasts (to which members of Bravest Boat contributed) was a Monorail fave of last year. Packaging includes beautiful illustrations from Rob Churm.
