Egypt & Lebanon: Cosmic Arabic Disco 1974-1985

Released: 17th November 2017

A treasure trove of cosmic funk and lush dancefloor seductions recorded, remarkably, against the backdrop of the Lebanese Civil War and international intrigue in Egypt. The 11 tracks recorded here, over a decade, range from giddy 70s dance music from the likes of Joseph Nemnon ("Rasputin") to a positively bonkers synth psyche-out from Assa'd Khoury. The playing through out these tracks is exemplary, with muscular funk workouts rendered mind-bending to staid western ears by Middle Eastern modes and rhythms. Another highlight amongst highlights is the moody kitch dancer Jamileh by Ihsan Al Munzer, as seductive as it is fried by phaser and flanger effects.
