Finally on vinyl, limited red vinyl. In 2005, erstwhile Teenage Fanclub drummer and all-round great musician Paul Quinn formed a duo as an outlet for his own sun-drenched, Big Star-ish tracks. It's a breath of pure, fresh melodic manna from heaven. Comparisons with Quinn's other band are unavoidable but that's not a bad thing. Impeccably recorded, Quinn's sound here sits squarely with Teenage Fanclub's "Grand Prix" and "Songs From Nothern Britain" eras, with healthy doses of Gin Blossoms dynamics. In songs like Off Course there's also pleasing nods to late 70's U.S. power pop and even a bittersweet chord progression in 2A.M. which speaks very true about the break up of a relationship. All through out North Pole there's an earnestness and smart songwriting that offers an idea of what the Lemonheads would sound like with less drugs and more trademarked Glasgow floppy fringes.
